The shortage is due to the country’s HPAI outbreak that began in late 2021 and has yet to subside. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), over 43 million table egg layers were depopulated due to HPAI in 2022. Source: Wattagnet
