With more than 140 locations throughout Florida and Georgia, Pollo Tropical joined Burger King, and Chipotle as one of the largest fast-food chains in South Florida to offer a plant-based protein option on their menu.

The menu features icons to let you know which items are vegetarian and vegan. I found this extremely helpful in deciding what toppings I wanted to use. It’s interesting to note that the sweet plantains were not listed as being vegan or vegetarian, and they are in the vegan wrap.

Seeing that they just started serving the bowls on January 3, 2020, I will give them a pass on cross-contamination. I found what looked like small shreds of cheese in my bowl that I was able to easily pick out. The taste was a little bland compared to the bowl I would usually get at other chains. However, I see myself ordering it again in hopes of them offering more items on their menu.

Pollo Tropical was founded in 1988 by two brothers named Larry and Stuart Harris in Miami, Florida. The chain is currently owned by Fiesta Restaurant Group who also owns Taco Cabana.
